EXOTENTREFFEN Exotentreffen 7 september 2024
After a very wet night, Saturday 7 September fortunately started with glorious weather. In preparation, the GTS1000 was polished up and the Puch minibike also had to suffer.
The arrival at the Zonnehuis was as usual. The parking lot was closed off again and the coffee was ready. It remains a special place to organize this meeting. The first participant was already showing off his historic motorcycle, a Terrot HS from 1927 if I remember correctly.
After everything had been set up and ready, the participants trickled in. From a distance you could hear which machine was being ridden. The great thing was that almost all the exotics that Johan Kole, the nestor of our meeting, ever had in his shed were present. The turbo engines from Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki, the big stinker was the Yamaha XJ750D from Bob Hollander, specially made for the Japanese market and with an LCD dashboard on which all kinds of things can be read. Probably the only one in the Netherlands and possibly also in Europe. Many people have been looking for the turbo boost function on the screen, but of course it was not to be found.
All 6 cylinders also passed by, the Honda CBX1000, the Kawasaki Z1300 and the Benelli 900 Sei. A feast for the eyes and ears too! Special guests were our friends from England, 2 couples on two old Vincent motorcycles, a 1 and a 2 cylinder. Great sound and beautiful to see. Cool to be surprised every time on which machine they appear on the scene again.
At the last minute, a participant arrived on a Hercules Wankel. I know that I am doing all the other participants with their special motorcycles an injustice by not mentioning them, but of course we are grateful for all the beautiful things that could be admired. It was also great to see that our German friends were well represented again.
Unfortunately, the concours d'elegance was ruined because the prizes were not present. We will of course make up for this in the next edition. Peter van Zon, chairman of the KJMV, took the trouble to drive his GoldWing with sidecar out of the shed, to drive the nestor of our meeting, Johan Kole, for an hour over the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. How he enjoyed this great moment and how good that this was still granted to him. Thanks Peter!
Around noon, the colorful group left for the beautiful tour ride over the dike from Wijk bij Duurstede to Opheusden, with a break in Rhenen and then via Amerongen to the BBQ location in Zeist. Upon arrival, everyone was treated to a refreshing ice cream and this was also necessary, after all, the radiant weather continued and this resulted in a perceived temperature of about 28 degrees.
After the cozy BBQ, everyone went home and could put their legs up for a while. We looked back with satisfaction on this great edition. Thanks again to all participants! Thanks to you, the Exotentreffen is a success every time! The photos will soon be available on the website.
